Suppose a liver becomes available and there are two patients waiting for a transplant. One of them has been on the transplant list for a long time, is likely to die without it, but is a known alcoholic (which can damage the liver). The other is an 18 year old who has just been put on the list, but will soon die if a donor is not found. If you were the director of the ethics committee, which patient would you recommend gets the liver and why.
