Designing a vehicle, whether it is for land, air or sea, comes with many challenges. Thankfully, many wonderful ideas are born from these challenges and can be applied to other fields. A perfect example of this is the new 40 "Signature Series" Super Yacht.
The design for the yacht came from Lord Baron Foster, a very successful architect who has worked on designs for pretty much everything from buildings to...well yachts. This, his most recent creation, took a team of 7 architects a total of 15 months to completely render on paper and computer and will be built by YachtPlus.
When compared to yachts in the same class, the 40 "Signature Series" finishes well ahead of most of the competition. Special attention was paid to the amount of light and free space available on each of its four decks. Almost every deck or sitting area has a forward looking view and as much outside light as possible is used, rather than electrical lighting.
The use of available space was also very carefully planned and the end result was an average of 30% more space than traditional yachts of the same class. The designers were also able to keep the vessel very user-friendly, even for a larger family with young children. All total, the 40 can hold 12 passengers and 7 crew members.
The interior is just as meticulously pieced together as the exterior. The owner's suite is positioned right at the bow with windows on either side providing the perfect view of the direction the yacht is going. Each room has as many windows as possible to let ambient light in, while during the night the windows appear opaque from the outside to provide privacy for passengers.
A few other key features of the 40 include a fully submersible beach beck and a dedicated storage and launch area for jet-skis. Power comes from a pair of 1400 horsepower Caterpillar Diesel engines that can move the yacht at up to 17.5 knots.
Construction of the luxury yachts is already in progress with no official figure on the final production number.
